Required Texas voters to present photo ID or two alternate forms of non-photo ID in order to vote. The bill has failed the Legislature several times, and is guaranteed to be brought up again in the 2011 session.

Pingpaul, whether the liberal TX Dems like it or not, Voter ID is likely to be passed and Perry will sign it into law come next year.
After working at the polls, I can see why it is essential to have a voter ID. Voters are required to be registered to vote. We need to connect the person at the polls with their voter registration.
Absolutely! There needs to be a way to stop the voter fraud that ACORN was famously exploiting. That can and should be done by an ID to vote... I show mine every time I vote because I have no idea where my little colored piece of paper is... There is a need to protect our right to vote and accepting a piece of paper is like accepting a note written by a kid that skipped school to get back in. It is rediculous. I really do not see what the issue is to have to pull out an ID instead of or in addition to the registration card that you pull out. Afraid you will get caught doing something wrong? See no other reason to object to that as needed.
Just because you have to show your ID to write a check does not mean you should be required to show photo ID to vote. It is wrong to have to show your ID (by the way the driver's license was never meant to be an ID card). It is wrong to have to show photo id to vote, especially if you have the state issued voter registration card. This is like a National ID card. This is beginning to look a lot like the former USSR-- having to show your papers. From a practical perspective any laminated piece of paper can be and will be forged. So, an ID card is no way to assure no voter fraud. If DPS is in charge of this-- remember they sent driver's licenses to the wrong addresses a few years ago.I would not trust DPS on anything.
The validation of identification should be the rule, not the exception. I agree, it makes no good sense to allow persons without proper identification to VOTE...this is very important. It is all a part of ensuring the voting process is protected and not corrupted by something so simply addressed.
